Carl Emerick Carlson was the second husband of Ida May Gibbons. They were married on February 8, 1932, in Westfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. Irene and William were the children of Ida and her first husband, William J. Paulson of Granville, Massachusetts. The monument with the angel on top visible from the Carlson stone is a memorial to Ida's parents and her siblings who died as children. This poor family was plagued with tragedy. The Paulson children were taken into custody by the state of Massachusetts before 1934 when their grandmother Rose Gibbons received notice of their progress. Ida's son William died in state custody in 1947. Carl died in 1961. Ida's daughter Irene lived until 2008.
