MARTHA JANE DAVIS
Martha Jane Davis died at the home of her daughter, Emma Tinney, on Sunday, May 18, 1919. Her death was not unexpected as she had been lingering for sometime. She was born in South Carolina in 1837, moved to Alabama when twelve years, here she spent her life; had she lived until July 5 1919, she would have been 82 years old. She was married twice, had three children by her first husband, only one living, Jane Albright,who now lives in Texas; 7 children by her second husband Clem Davis; the living are: Van Davis of Louisiana, R H Davis of Alabama, Floyd Davis, Ellen Murphy, Emma Tinney. She had been a member of the Baptist Church 68 years; was a member of Florence church at her death.
She was loved by all who knew her,and was a friend to those who where in need. Even in her last moments she had not a murmer or complaint to make because she knew that her God whom she had been trusting for 68 years had let her live her alloted time and she could say,"thy will be done."
Funeral services were conducted by Rev O. M. Moore and interment was made in Rocky Ridge Cemetery.
"Softly now the light of day
Fades upon our sight away;
Free from care, from labor free,
Lord we would commune with thee!
Soon for us the light of day
Shall forever pass away;
Then from sin and sorrow free,
Take us Lord to dwell with Thee!"
