Died in Jackson Township

He was born 5 miles from the Canada border. In the 1883 History of Butler & Bremer Co Iowa, he says his parents were "Michell and Mary (Post) Freeman. The former a native of France, but reared in Canada and the latter a native of the last named country" meaning Canada. Michell Freeman was an anglicized version of Michel Foisy dit Freniere and Mary Post anglicized from Marie Desanges Angèliq Ponton-St-Germaine.... One census record shows Israel's parents both were born in France, so he was "French Canadian."
