Eliakim, Ozias' father, moved to Tinmouth, on the New Hampshire Grants (now Rutland County, Vermont) before 1775.
Four days before his 21st birthday, Ozias, with 100 other men, was drafted out of Colonel Samuel Herrick's 2nd Regiment of Vermont Milita and put under the immediate command of Lieutenant Colonel Ebenezer Walbridge who marched them to Rutland, Vermont to help guard the Frontiers. Ozias entered this service on June 16, 1778 as a Corporal in the Company commanded by Samuel Robinson, the Captain of the 1st Militia Company in Bennington, Vermont. After serving 24 days and having marched 110 miles, Ozias was discharged from this service on July 9, 1778.
On October 26, 1780, Ozias entered the service as a Private in Captain Thomas Collins (Ira) Company of Vermont Milita that had been called out to respond to an alarm caused by the raid led by British Major Christopher Carleton into the Lake Champlain Valley and beyond. Ozias was discharged from this service on October 29, 1780.
Ozias married, June 5, 1785, at Tinmouth, Rutland County, Vermont, Esther Marvin (1764-1834) by whom he had 14 children (5 sons and 9 daughters): Abigail (b. 1786), Lucinda (b. 1787), Marvin (1789-1863), Edna (b. 1790), Sarah (1791-1871), Eliakim (b. 1792), Anna (b. 1794), Reuben (b. 1796), Clara (b. 1798), Esther (1799-1863), Diana (1801-1801), Ozias (1802-1890), Hannah (1803-1803), and Benjamin Franklin (b. 1807).
In 1806, Ozias moved with his wife and family from Vermont to Dresserville, Town of Sempronius, Cayuga County, New York and settled on Lot 88. He and his wife lived, died and were buried on the farm on which they settled.
