Courage: the quality of mind that enables one to encounter difficulties and danger with firmness and without fear. Five time cancer defender have up her courageous battle surrounded by her family on May 27, 2009. Barbara Lee (Bumgarner) Hayes was born August 10, 1934 in Tulsa, the daughter of E.L. and Leslie (Primm) Bumgarner. She was raised and received her education in the Union school district, graduating in 1952. On November 10, 1951 she and the love of her life, Roy Darrell Hayes, they made their home in Tulsa until 1976, when they moved to Owasso. Barbara retired from Sears after 25 years of service. Strong in her faith, Barbara was raised and baptized in the First Lutheran Church of Tulsa and has been a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church of Owasso. She spent many years caring for ailing family members and faced many battles, always persevering. Gone from this earth, her presence will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know this courageous warrior.
Those that survive and hold many cherished memories are her:
Husband of 57 years – Roy Darrell
Children – Dennis Hayes of Bozeman, Montana
Daniel Hayes and wife Cyndi of Owasso
Dedra Hayes & husband Greg Landers of Claremore
Grandchildren – Brian Hayes, Michele Ragsdale, Brannon, Leslie and Daniel Hayes, Jr, Hanna Hayes and
Rachel Landers
Great grandchildren – Kennedy and Colson
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, oldest son Roy Darrell Hayes, Jr and two siblings.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in the sanctuary of Faith Lutheran Church, Owasso with her Pastor, Mark Neumann officiating. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, Barbara be remembered with donations to the Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure, Gift Management Services, 500 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service, Owasso. www.moweryfs.com
