OBITUARY:
Dorothy Charlotte Akers Mason, 94, of West Terre Haute passed away at 7:50 p.m. Thursday Oct. 1, 2009 in Royal Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute. She was born April 27, 1915 in Terre Haute to Rance Akers and Mammie Hirte Akers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Fred Mason. Survivors include: a daughter, Elizabeth A. "Betty" Phillips; two sons, Elmer L. Mason and his wife, Barbara, and Larry G. Mason; a daughter-in-law, Janet Mason; a brother, Lee Andrew Akers; a sister-in-law, Joyce Akers; 11 grandsons; one stepgrandson; seven great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Fred M. Mason; a daughter-in-law, Retta Mason; a son-in-law, James L. Phillips; two sisters, Florence Louise Sullivan and Frances McCullough, and a brother, Everette Akers. She attended the Bethesda United Methodist Church; and was an active member of the Vigo County Muscular Dystrophy Association of which she served on the Board for 19 years. She was also a member of the Sugar Creek Home Ec Club, a 60 year member of the West Terre Haute Order Of Eastern Star Chapter 428, and the Carpenters Ladies Auxillary. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Pastor Lisa Watler officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and prior to services Monday. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery.
