Braham Burial for Mrs. Swan Anderson a Former Resident
Funeral rites were conducted Monday afternoon at this week at the Braham Mission Covenant church for Mrs. Swan Adamson of Cambridge, formerly of Braham, who passed away early Wednesday morning of last week at her home at the age of nearly 90 years. She had been in ill health the past two years.
The Rev. A.W. Magnuson officiated at the services and vocal numbers were rendered by Dorothy and Ruth Magnuson and Dorothymae Dennewith, with Dorothy Magnuson playing the accompaniments and also the processional music. G.W. Carlson, Charles Groth, Emil A. Johnson, Sam Johnson, A.T. Peterson and Oscar T. Swanson were pallbearers. Burial was made in the family lot in the Braham Mission Cemetery.
Mrs. Adamson (Nee Martha Stina Hokanson) was born May 31, 1855, in Hokmans bygd, Bleking, Swedeen, where she attended school, was confimed in the state church, and remained until 1882 when she immigrated to the United States. Arriving in Minneapolis early that winter she was married on March 27 to Swan Adamson who had left his native Swedeen the year before. The couple continued to live in Minneapolis until 1894 when they moved to this community, settling on the farm near Braham in the Rice Lake community which remained the family home until Mr. and Mrs. Adamson moved to Cambridge in 1920.
The Adamson's golden wedding in 1920 was celebrated at the Braham Mission church where the couple were active members as long as their health permitted.
GOLD STAR MOTHER OF FIRST WORLD WAR
Proceeding their mother in death were six of the Adamsons ten children. - two who died in infancy. Emil in 1902, Mrs. Sider (Annie) in 1918, John in 1938, and Arthur, thru whose death at a training camp in Washington while in service in 1918. Mrs. Adamson became a Gold Star mother of World War I. Surviving Mrs. Adamson are the husband and four sons, Henry and Edd O. of Braham, Leonard of San Jose, Calif., and Clarence of Thompson Falls, Mont. She leaves also eight grandchildren, seven great-granchildren and other relatives.
Attending the final rites from a distance were Mr and Mrs Joe Goetzenberger of Minneapolis, Mrs George Earl of St. Paul, Sgt. and Mrs Walter Sider of Camp Barkeley, Tex., and also several friends from Cambridge.
