Horatio Bartow, son of Eliphaz and Mary Bartow. Seven siblings.
Military service: Civil War (Union). Private in Company "F", 27th Illinois Infantry. Enlisted at Plainview, Illinois, August 17, 1861 (Age 17). He is credited with having fought in the following battles: Belmont, MO; Union City, KY; Island No. 10 - Siege of Corinth, MS; Savengne, TN; Stone River, TN; Chicamanga, GA; Mission Ridge, TN; Rocky Face Ridge, GA; and Resaca, GA.
Horatio's military discharge certificate shows on 20 September 1864 he mustered out after serving years of voluntary service.
His military pension file shows in 1868, when he was just 25 years old, the entire front half of his left foot was amputated as the result of an accident. His foot was mangled in the cogs of a thrashing machine. He walked with a limp, but did not use a cane.
Horatio is buried along side his wife of many years.
