Mary was the daughter of William Champlin and Content Leeds Brown. William was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and told her many stories about his experiences. Mary married Hastings Castle on 02 Nov 1815 in Athens, Greene Co., NY. There were the parents of 10 children, of whom 8 lived to adulthood. They moved to Kenosha Co., Wisconsin by 1850. An article about Mary was written in the "Old Settler's" book in Kenosha County in which she expressed hope that she would live to 100. She came close and died at the age of 98.

Mrs. Mary N. Castle, of Somers, Kenosha county, the oldest woman in southern Wisconsin, died there last week aged ninety-eight. Before marriage she was Miss Mary Champlin. Her father, William Champlin, fought with Washington throughout the entire Revolutionary War and was one of Washington's body guards at Valley Forge.
