Marshall Keys, Jr. was the son of two renown educators in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, during the segregation days. "His father Marshall Keys, Sr. was the assistant principal of the first black school in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. His Mother Elizabeth H Keys started teaching in the school in 1917 at that time his father was the assistant principal. His Mother later became principal in 1943." Ref. He was a WWII veteran who rose to the grade of Technical Sergeant which was at that time one grade below the highest enlisted rank in the US Army. At that time all military branches were segregated. Unfortunately Marshall was killed in Biloxi in 1952 at the age of 29.
