The Homer Republican dated October 22, 1908, p. 8 contains the following death notice:

David Bacon, a brother of Harrison Bacon of South Spafford, died Tuesday night at his home in Westfield, Chautauqua County, age 80 years. Mr. Bacon left yesterday to attend the funeral.

one of our oldest and most Highly respected citizens, was killed by a train on the Nickel Plate at the Goodrich Crossing at about 8 o'clock Tuesday Evening Mr Bacon had been to Buffalo and was walking home, when he was hit and instantly killed as he was crossing the tracks of the nickel Plate railroad on McKinley Street. Mr Bacon was 80 years of age, and had been a resident of this town for a great many years. The funeral will be held from his residence Friday

Thursday October 29, 1908.

Harrison Bacon returned home last Monday night from Westfield, Chautauqua county, where he was called by the sudden death of his brother, David Bacon. Mr. Bacon was killed by a west bound freight train on the Nickel Plate railroad, at West Portland at about 8 p.m. last Tuesday, 20th inst. Mr. Bacon was on his way from Buffalo, having left the train at Minton's crossing, at about 6 o'clock. No report was made of him from the time he left the train to the time he was killed except that of a brakeman of the freight who saw him standing on or near the track but could not stop in time to save him. Mr Bacon was a native of Scott and lived in that part of the country until he reached the age of 26, when he moved to Westfield. In 1855 he married Miss Ruth House, who died in 1893. Mr Bacon was again married to Jessie D. Follenbee in 1897. Besides his wife two sons Eugene and Ernest of Westfield and two daughters, Mrs. A.Mills of Pennsylvania and Mrs. Eva Balley of Westfield and one brother, Harrison Bacon of South Spafford, survive him. Mr Bacon was past 80 years of age and has for many years managed large vineyards which have been very profitable. The funeral was held last Friday at his home on the lake road. nearly all the family being present.
