Mrs. Shaw, age 89, of Hineston, Louisiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in Naomi Heights Nursing Home.
Gerry was born to Crawford L. Johnson & Euphemia Morrow Johnson in Hineston, November 21, 1927. In her younger years, she enjoyed cooking, square dancing and playing softball. She was a member of Fellowship Methodist Church. She was an outstanding teacher as depicted in the following awards; Outstanding Service Award of Recognition for service in Vocational Education from the Louisiana Vocational Association, was director of the Rapides Parish Co-Op Program for the Rapides Parish School Board & was president of the Louisiana Business Education Dept. of The Louisiana Teachers' Association. Gerry was active in community, state & national volunteer service with the American Red Cross and was awarded "Volunteer of the Year" in disaster service in 1991-1992 and awarded "Citizen of the Year" in 1994 from Woodmen of the World.
Mrs. Shaw is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Talma Johnson (Carrie), Theodor Johnson (Vivian), Shelby Johnson (Edna), Ted Johnson; three sisters Hazel Nixon (Carl), Venita LeBlanc (Gwin), Sylvia Armstrong and her great grandchild, Logan Shaw.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 67 years, Meade P. Shaw; her sons, Lance Shaw (Joan), Chris Shaw (Karen); her daughter, Stacy Ford (Richard); six grandchildren, Lucas Shaw (Jamie), Robyn Cloessner (Kris), Jonathan Shaw (Virginia), Megan Shaw, Erin Shaw, Casie Ford; five great grandchildren, Jaxton Cloessner, Koleston Cloessner, Avery Shaw, Sophie Shaw, Jane Shaw and her brother-in law, Ray Armstrong.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Richard Ford, Kris Cloessner, Jonathan Shaw, Lucas Shaw, Ellis Lott and Robert Bullard. Honorary pallbearers will be Robyn Cloessner, Megan Shaw, Erin Shaw and Casie Ford.
Visitation will be at Fellowship United Methodist Church, Hineston, Friday, February 24, 2017, from 5:00 - 9:00 pm and will resume on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 9:00 am until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Red Cross of Central Louisiana, Fellowship Cemetery, P.O. Box 91, Hineston, LA 71438, or the Alzheimer's Association .
