JAMES MURRAY HOWELL, 80, of Memphis, retired engineer for Shelby County, died of heart failure Tuesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum. He was a member of Mullins United Methodist Church, Memphis Engineers Club, past president of Memphis Society of Professional Engineers and served as first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in World War II. Mr. Howell, the husband of Imogene Denning Howell, also leaves a daughter, Julia Howell, and a son, James G. Howell II, both of Memphis; two sisters, Mary Bishop of Enville, Tenn., and Allie Russell of La Follette, Tenn., and two grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to Mullins United Methodist Church or Church Health Center.
