Died in Magnolia township, Putnam county, Feb. 13, of chronic inflammation of the stomach, Henry B. Kays, aged 63 years.

Henry B. Kays died February 13, at his residence, near Caledonia, Putnam county. He had suffered from failing health for some two years, but was confined to the bed but six weeks. Mr. Kay's birthplace was Kentucky. He afterwards emigrated to Knox county, in this state, and in 1850 came to Putnam county, where he located as a farmer, and from whence he amassed a considerable landed estate. He entered the army in 1862 as first lieutenant; served one year and resigned. He was a prominent man in the community, actuated by noble impulses, of strict integrity and one of those who despised a mean act. He had been a member of the M. E. church many years, and died a conscientious receiver of that faith. His family consisted of a wife and four sons and two daughters, all of whom survive him, except two of the children, who preceded him to the unseen world. Several of the children are married and have families, and all stand high in the estimation of their fellow citizens. The roads and weather were bad at the time of the funeral, yet the attendance was very large, attesting the worth of the deceased, and the sympathy felt for the bereaved. The interment took place at the Magnolia village cemetery.
