Grace Walters

Grace Johnson Jacox Walters was born March 13, 1914, in Sheridan, Ore. She was the first of eight children born to George and Lolita Johnson. Raised in Hood, Wash., in the shadow of the Broughton flume, she married Cecil Jacox in 1932. She raised four sons in Parkdale, Ore.

After being widowed in 1952, Grace married Roy Walters in 1955 and moved to Tacoma, Wash. She returned to Hood River in 1976 when Roy retired. Following Roy's death in 1991, she maintained her home on Rand Road until illness required her to move to Cherry Street Manor in White Salmon, Wash., where she passed away peacefully on Dec. 13, 2006, at 92 years of age.

Grace is survived by her four sons, Douglas, of St. Paul, Minn., Donald, of Seattle, Wash., Norman, of White Salmon, Wash., and Portland, Ore., and Michael, of Mattawa, Wash.; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lewis and Charles, and sister, Edith. Grace loved gardening, music, sewing, knitting, and pinochle. She was an active member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. A private family remembrance has been scheduled for January. Inurnment will be at Idlewild Cemetery. Gardner Funeral Home handled arrangements.
