Obituary from the Parkersburg News, October 6, 2007: Rayburn Maxine May Alkire, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg. She was born January 23, 1920, in Pleasants County, WV, the daughter of the late Thomas E. Brewer and Gladys Mildred Kehrer Brewer. She retired from C & P Telephone Co. with 32 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, West Virginia Chapter 42. She was a member of the St. Marys Presbyterian Church. She was an avid golfer and was a member of the St. Marys Women's Golf League. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Columbus Elster May; her second husband, Paul M. Alkire; her son, Larry Elster May; her daughter, Karen Sue Glick; a sister, Vaughn Smith; a brother, Lawrence Brewer; and an infant granddaughter. She is survived by two grandsons, Larry Elster May Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Wayne, WV, and Kent Anderson May; a granddaughter, Shelley Lynn Stewart and husband, Tim, of Huntington, WV; three great-grandsons, Zev Elster May and Zachary Claude May, also of Wayne, and Jackson Trey Stewart of Huntington; her son-in-law, David Glick of Huntington; stepson, Max M. Alkire and wife, Cynthia, of St. Marys; stepgrandsons, Stephen P. Alkire and wife, Renee, of Williamstown and Thomas P. Alkire and wife, Martha, of Cincinnati, OH; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Zachary and Mikayla Alkire of Williamstown and Sophia Alkire of Cincinnati, OH. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary, Huntington. Interment will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The American Cancer Society or the Organization of one's choice.
