South Range -- Richard D. "Rick" Coponen, 48, a former resident of Atlantic Mine and South Range, passed away Saturday, August 5, 1995, at the Veteran's Adminstration Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Rick was born June 29, 1947, in Hancock, a son of Clarence and Martha (Keranen) Coponen.
He attended the Adams Township Schools, later living in Detroit, where he graduated from high school.
While living in Detroit, Rick was employed with United Parcel Service. He later lived in Arizona, where he worked as a truck driver and also a carpenter.
Rick was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1966 to 1970, during the Vietnam War.
Surviving are a son; his mother, Martha Coponen, of South Range, his father, Clarence; one sister; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 1995, at the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range, with Rev. E. Olaf Rankinen, to officate. Friends may call from noon until the time of services on Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery
