Rites set for Mrs. Benny Jo Bates
Mrs. Benny Jo Bates, 50, longtime Jacksonville dance teacher, died at 11:50 p.m. Saturday in a Tyler hospital after an extended illness.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday in Thompson Funeral Home Chapel. Requeim mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church of Jacksonville with the Rev. Robert Chagnon and the Rev. James Droney officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
A native of Beaumont, Mrs. Bates had lived in Jacksonville since 1968. She was a member of Dance Masters of America, and served on board of directors of South Texas Association of Dance Teaches and the board of directors of the Arts Alliance ofthe Sate of Texas and was actively engaged in local organizaions to promote the arts. She had served as choraographer for many musicals at Jacksonville High School and Cherokee Civic Theater. She owned and operated the Bates School of Dance 32 years, which had been located in Jacksonville the past 32 years. Mrs. Bates was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. A daughter, Patty, preceded her in death in 1980.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Bates of Jacksonville; a daughter Mrs. Peggy Premeauz of Beaumont; one son, Eddie Bates of Beaumont; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Monlezue of Beaumont; a sister, Mrs. Diana Stansbury of Baton Rouge, La.; and two nephews.
Pallbearers include Frank Brown, Bill Bailey, Darrell Porter, Dr. Charles Derrick, Dr. Lamary Mabon, and Bobby Todd.
Nephews and students of Bates School of Dance will be honorary pallbearers.
