“John Mason Hopkins, 71, resident of Williamsport, father of Mrs. James Reed of Attica, died at 2:30 Tuesday morning in the Ward Hospital. Death came as a relief after months of patient suffering. He had been ill of diabetes for seven years.

John Mason Hopkins was born in Fountain County. In May, 1865, he married Clara Bell Rogers who passed away in 1889. In 1892, he married Miss Eva Kenny who also preceded him in death. Three years ago he was united I marriage to Mrs. Jennie Watts of Fountain, who survives him.

Mr. Hopkins spent the early years of his life in Fountain where he operated a grocery store, in 1911 he moved to Judyville and operated a store there. Later he moved to Williamsport. He retired from active business in 1929 when his health failed. He went to Iowa and sought relief there from his ailment, but of no avail for he was afflicted with an incurable disease. He returned to Williamsport where he resided until his death.

He is survived by his widow, and two daughters, by his first marriage, Jeannie, wife of James Reed of Attica, and Maude, wife of Ralph Strean of Covington.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, from the Methodist church in Williamsport. Burial will be made in Riverside cemetery, Attica.” – December 31, 1936

Mr. Hopkins was born May 10, 1855, in Fountain County. He was a retired merchant, and had resided in Williamsport 50 years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Covington and of the Knights of Pythias of Attica.

Surviving are the widow, Jenny, and two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Strain, Covington, and Mrs. James Reed, Attica.

The body was taken to D. A. Hamilton Funeral Home, Williamsport. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church here, the Rev. Fred Longwell officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery, Attica."-The Covington Republican, Friday, January 1, 1937
