Noble A. Parrish, 88, of Kirksville, MO, passed away April 8, 2008, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
He was born March 16, 1920, in Knox County, MO, near Rutledge, MO, the son of Ogilvie Russell and Catherine Stephan Parrish.
On September 13, 1944, at Springfield, MO, he was united in marriage to Mabel Peak.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel Parrish of Kirksville, MO; two sons, Edwin R. Parrish and friend, Janet Abel of Kirksville, MO, and Clifford E. Parrish and wife, Linda of Burlington, IA; one sister, Mary Martin and husband, Forrest of Memphis, MO; three grandchildren, Heather Smith and husband, Erik, Brandon Parrish, and Katie Parrish; three great-grandchildren, Cody, Ella and Dalton; and several nieces and nephews.
Noble was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donovan G. Parrish.
Noble was raised in Knox County, MO, where he received his education in rural schools. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II from May 18, 1944 to January 19, 1946. He received special training in the Army Medical Technician School in Springfield, MO. During World War II he served in France in the 189th General Hospital.
Noble was employed as a medical assistant in the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, IA for 10 years and owned and operated the Wapello Nursing Home in Wapello, IA, seven years. In 1972 he sold the nursing home and he and his family returned to Knox County, MO, where he was engaged in farming till 1983 when he retired and moved to Edina.
Since 1993 Noble and his wife have resided in Kirksville.
Noble enjoyed woodworking, crafts, reading, furniture making and spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral services were held April 11, 2008, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville, MO. Officiating the services were John Platte and Tom Davis. Burial with full military honors will be in Park View Memorial Gardens "Veterans Garden of Honor" in Kirksville, MO. Casket bearers was Russell Martin, Eldon Parrish, Wayne Parrish, Leon Bengtsen, Walter Manigold, and George Headrick.
