Henry and his wife raised the five daughters of his brother, Harvey and Laura McFarland. The oldest of the daughters was 17 and the youngest 2 when their mother died; Henry had died a few years before. One of these daughters, Minnie, married George Buswell. Buswell Family records state that Henry was in the 2nd Division of the Army Corp of the Cumberland; and that he fought in fourteen battles and was with General Sherman on his march through Georgia.
