Mary was the oldest child of Charles John Bockius (1834-1918) and Helen (Mar Garlick) Bockius (1845-1933).

She married Charles Sumner Rockhill on October 11, 1888 in Canton, Stark County OH.

They were the parents of four daughters:
Helen (Rockhill) Dollison (1890-1977), Ruth (Rockhill) Holmes (1892-1966), Dorothy Rockhill (1896-1898), and Charlene (Rockhill) Wachtell (1903-1973).
