DEATH OF AGED CITIZEN.
Columbus McCrary died at his home eight miles north of Albany on July 29th after having been a sufferer for some time from kidney trouble. He was over 80 years old and had resided in Gentry county since 1843.
Deceased was born in Daviess county, Missouri Dec 3, 1833. He came with his parents to Gentry county in the spring of 1843, and lived on the farm where they then settled until his death. In 1853, he married to Miss Mary Blanton. Of the nine children born to this union the oldest died in infancy. All the others are living and were all present at the funeral of their father. They are: Mrs. Eugene McMichael of Worth county, Geo. McCrary of southwest Missouri, and James, Benjaman, Sol and Jesse McCrary, Mrs. Nancy Stephens and Mrs. Steve Bentley, all of Gentry county.
When about 30 years of age Mr. McCrary was converted in a meeting conducted by Rev. E.S. Ragan, and united with the M.E. Church, South, continuing in that membership until his death.
Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. J.S. Wayman, assisted by Rev. J.M. Ragan, on Friday, July 30th, after which the remains of this old Gentry county settler were laid to rest in the Carter cemetery by the grave of his wife, who died 23 years ago.
