Baggett Family of Kiowa Community

During more than 60 years of married life Henry and Kate Baggett lived in San Augustine, Ironsa, Texas where 6 of their children were born. The family moved to Panola County, Texas in 1901 where 2 more children were born. The family moved to western Oklahoma in 1906 where the test of their children were born.

The Baggett family had five sons in service in World War I. Their lives were spared except for Lucius Harold who died at the Naval Hospital at Mare Island, California from influenza.

When World War II came, three more sons entered military service. The youngest son, Richard Voyne, was killed in action in Sicily.

In April 1959 Henry was living at 926 N. Adams, Elk City, Oklahoma.

Kiowa

Henry Baggett a long time resident of Kiowa was buried in Kiowa Cemetery Saturday afternoon. He passed away in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charley Fuller at Graham, Texas. Mr. Baggett had been ill for several years. He was preceded in death by Mrs. Baggett early this year. He lived with his son, Ted, at Elk City for some time. The Baggett children were reared in this vicinity.

Henry D. Baggett

Born October 6, 1872, in San Augustine, Texas, Mr. Baggett died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eala Mae Fuller, at Graham, Texas on October 14, at the age of 87 years and 8 days.

He was married to Kate Raye Prichett December 4, 1892 in San Augustine. They filed on a farm in Ellis County in 1906, and in 1909 moved to Roger Mills County and lived here until 194 when he moved to Elk City.

He was a member of the Strong City Baptist Church, where he served as deacon.

Survicors include seven sons, Bonds Baggett, Andrews, Rexas; James Baggett, Oklahoma City; Newman Baggett, Woodward; John W. Baggett, Chico, California; Terrence(sic) I. Baggett, Elk City; the Reverend Cecil Baggett, Watonga, Oklahoma, and Acie W. Baggett, Chico, California; two(sic) daughters Mrs. Eala Mae Fuller, Graham, Texas and Mrs. Eula Knight, Amarillo, Texas; 36 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Estella Shrote, Center, Texas and Mrs. Mary DeFee, Fineland, Texas and one brother, W. A. Baggett of Center, Texas.

His wife and two sons preceded him in death.

Burial was in Kiowa cemetery, southwest of Hammon, directed by Martin-Hullum funeral home, Elk City.

Obituary Note: The funeral service gave full name as Ephrem Henry David Baggett. Also there were four daughters -- the other two being Fern and Lorene.
