She was born on Aug. 12, 1912, in Glendive, Mont., to Floyd and Lora (Beard) Williams. She was raised in Byron, Minn. After graduating from high school she moved to St. Paul where she attended Hamline University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English and music. Upon her college graduation, Evelyn moved to Kenyon, Minn., where she taught for five years. While living in Kenyon, Evelyn met Kermit Aase. They later married on Aug. 20, 1944, in Byron, Minn. They moved to Brainerd in August of 1944 and have been area residents since. Evelyn enjoyed music, serving as church organist for several churches in Brainerd for many years, and spending their many years living on Gull Lake. She was active in P.E.O., A.A.U.W. and Nisswa Women's Club.
She is survived by her son, Brian (Kay) Aase of Nisswa, Minn.; her daughter, Karen Aase of Denver; her two granddaughters, Kelly and Stacie Aase of Nisswa, Minn.; and her brother, Robert (Hilda) Williams of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Kermit in 2003.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Brainerd with Pastor Deborah Celley officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, from 5-7 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred to the hospice program at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Brainerd.
