HIRAM HATFIELD
---Hiram "Hi" Hatfield, the only living son of Rebecca and Ail Hatfield, was born in the Lowground vicinity near Worthington, Mo., Sept. 15, 1852. He departed this life at his home in Worthington at 9:30 a.m. April 13, 1957 at the age of 84 yrs., 7 months and 28 days. He had spent his entire life, with the exception of the past four years, on his farm south of Worthington.
---He was united in marriage with Martha Boyd of the Lowground vicinity in the year 1870. She preceded him in death and left to him six children, three of whom are still living, namely; Mrs. L. J. Burns, Mrs. Ettie McMains of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Una Mulanix of Worthington.
---Mr. Hatfield again united in holy wedlock, this time with Miss Melissa Collins of the Lowground vicinity on March 4, 1886. To this union were born fifteen children. His wife and eight children are left to mourn his death as a result of this union, namely; Mrs. H. Hatfield of Worthington, Cecil, Robert and Ail Hatfield of Des Moines, Ia.,; Mrs. H. D. Hendricks of Linden, Michigan; Dewey Hatfield and Mrs. Everett Newman of Worthington, Mo.; Mrs. Harold Paull of Los Angeles, Calif., and Doris H. Hatfield of Cincinnati, Ia. He leaves behind two sisters: Mrs. L. Lane of Unionville, and Mrs. Tabitha Edwards of Moulton, Iowa. There are 30 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
---Mr. Hatfield was a well known man and a prominent citizen in Putnam county. He always respected his neighbors and in turn was respected by them.
---Funeral services were held in the Worthington Baptist Church, Friday afternoon, April 16, conducted by the Rev. Perley M. Lind, pastor of the Christian Church at Queen City. The body was laid to rest in the Hatfield cemetery, 5 miles south of Worthington.
