Phalen Hassen Bartley, passed away at Pineville Community Hospital on Friday, September 7, 2012 at the age 93. He was born June 8, 1919. He is preceded in death by wife, Vina Bartley; daughter, Wanda Ross; infant son; parents, Mittie and Barney Bartley; three brothers: Connie Barley, Lewie Bartley and Ted Bartley, and great grandchild, Noah Melton.

He is survived by his son, Jim Bartley; daughter, Glenda Smith both of Middlesboro; grandchildren: Pamela Brewer, Paula Hatfield, Brandi Muncy and husband Will; Alicia Burnside and husband John of Middlesboro, Crystal Angel and husband William of Oneida, TN and Leigh Bartley of Alanta, GA; great-grandchildren: Jalen Brewer, Amber Hatfield, Isaac Muncy, Jordan Muncy, Shelby Smith, Connor Burnside and Trey Melton and wife Mary; great–great grandchildren: Elijah Melton and Conner Melton; a host of family and friends and special thanks to the nursing staff at Pineville Community Hospital.


Funeral service will be 3 p.m., Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jay Barnett officiating. Burial will be at Turner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leigh Bartley, Will Muncy, John Burnside, Leroy Robbins, Isaac Muncy, and Jalen Brewer. The family will receive friends 2-3 p.m., Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel.
