Richard Douglas Alexander
Richard Douglas Alexander, who retired as a civil employee of Brookley Air Force Base, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 93. Alexander, a native and resident of Mobile, worked at the former Air Force base for many years and received a number of awards for outstanding service. He was a member of Stewart Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where he had served as a class leader, secretary of the trustees board, and a member of the steward board and senior choir. He also was a member of Gulf City Lodge No. 14. Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Ponzettar Johnson, Myrtle Gayles, Mary Finch, Norwood Alexander, James Alexander, Ruthie Shine, Steve Alexander, Lebarron Alexander, Claudette Cole, Sallie G. Charlie, Leroy Kennedy Jr., Marian C. Tillman, Susie Hardin, Kamel Kennedy, Joe Kennedy, state Rep. Yvonne Kennedy and Brenda J. Kennedy. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stewart Memorial CME Church, 1266 Davis Ave., with the funeral at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson-Allen Mortuary on Chestnut Street.
