Graveside services for John Ernest MORTON, 96, of Sallisaw were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cottonwood Cemetery, near Muldrow, with Lee Killer officiating. Mr. MORTON was born Sept. 4, 1902, in Stilwell, to Sam and Mary Ann (MOTON) MORTON. He died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at Sequoyah Manor Nursing Home in Sallisaw. He married Virgie MILLER. She preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Virginia, Nadien and Irene; two sons, John "Buck" and Lage; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Mr. MORTON was also preceded in death by his parents, one son Ewell, two grandchildren, Freida WILEY and Chylane BIRDWELL, five sisters and one brother. Arrangements were under the direction of Mallory-Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
