James H. Weldon, age 70, resident of Stamford since 1921, died of a heart attack Saturday at 9:30 p.m. at the Stamford Sanitarium. He had worked all day Saturday and was stricken ill late in the evening. He was taken to the Stamford Sanitarium, but failed to rally.
Funeral service was held Monday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Miles B. Hays, pastor, was assisted by Rev J. H. Skiles, pastor at the New Hope Church, in conducting the service. Burial was in Highland Cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were, C. M. Lester, W. C. Pratt, C. R. Simms, C. E. Brownfield, George Smith and R. C. Thomas.
Mr. Weldon was born December 21, 1873 in Alabama, and came to Texas in 1875 with his parents. They settled at May Field, Milam County. He married Alma Sanders in Milam County on July 24, 1894, and they would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in July. They moved to Jones county from Coleman county in 1921. Mr. Weldon had been a member of the Baptist Church for 43 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, H. J. Weldon of Boise, Idaho; R. S. of Plainview, and D. S. of Abilene and a daughter, Mrs. Oscar Tabbe of Waco. Nine grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Bessie Swanner of Littlefield, Mrs. Ida White of Rosebud, Mrs. Willie Hamilton of Childress and Mrs. Alice McLean of Ballinger, also survive, Peggy Weldon, a senior in Stamford High school, is one of the grandchildren.
