Uriah Brigham, youngest child of Elnathan Brigham and Bethiah Ward, b. Nov. 3, 1722 at Mansfield, Conn. He d. Jan. 25, 1777 at Coventry, Conn., Æ 55. He is recognized by the DAR as a Revolutionary War patriot and was in charge of a rifle battery and expense accounts at Coventry during that war.

Uriah m. 1) May 22, 1745 at Mansfield, Conn., Lydia Ward, who d. Dec. 14, 1750, Æ 26. He m. 2) May 28, 1754 at Coventry, Conn., Anne Richardson, dau. of Amos Richardson and Rachel Yarrington, b. Jan. 4, 1733/4 at Coventry.

The "History of the Brigham Family" (1907) describes Uriah as having been "very plain in all his tastes" and that "his anxiety for his country is believed to have hastened his death." He had the following ten children, the first two b. at Mansfield and the rest at Coventry, Conn.:

By first wife Lydia Ward:

• i. Hannah Brigham, b. Apr. 9, 1746, d. Apr. 16, 1813, Æ 68 (g.s.); m. May 19, 1766 at Mansfield, Jacob Baker Gurley, s. of Dea. Jonathan Gurley and Hannah Baker, b. July 28, 1742 at Mansfield. He d. Feb. 20, 1804 at Mansfield, Æ 62 (g.s.). Ten children of the family.

• ii. Capt. Gershom Brigham, b. Apr. 12, 1749, d. Sept. 2, 1834 at Mansfield, Conn. (g.s.); m. Jan. 13, 1774 at Coventry, Anna Parker, dau. of James Parker and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Skinner, b. July 16, 1749 at Coventry. She d. Aug. 18, 1815 at Coventry (g.s.) They had no known children.

By second wife Anne Richardson:

• iii. Roger Brigham, b. Oct. 28, 1755 and d. an infant Nov. 11, 1760 (g.s.).

• iv. Bethiah Brigham, b. July 14, 1757, d. July 20, 1838 at New Lisbon, NY; m. Jan. 30, 1782 at Coventry, Zacheus Downer, s. of Andrew Downer and Mary Brown, b. Nov. 13, 1755 at Norwich, Conn. He d. July 17, 1851 at Utica, NY. Seven children of the family.

• v. Anna Brigham, b. Oct. 14, 1759. A marriage controversy concerning Anna has not been resolved by the writer.

• vi. Norman Brigham, b. Dec. 2, 1761. Was a revolutionary soldier imprisoned on a British ship at New York, was later released and d. unm. at Coventry in Aug. 1782.

• vii. Don Carlos Brigham, b. Feb. 21, 1763, d. Mar. 27, 1843 (g.s.); m. June 7, 1789 at Coventry, Mary "Polly" Greenleaf, dau. of David Greenleaf and Mary Johnson, b. Apr. 7, 1738 at Norwich, Conn. She d. Oct. 30, 1845 at Coventry (g.s.). Seven children of the family.

• viii. Cephas Brigham, b. Dec. 7, 1765 and d. May 17, 1841 at Coventry (g.s.); m. May 14, 1786 at Coventry, Amelia Robertson, dau. of Daniel and Susanna (Robertson) Robertson, b. Sept. 23, 1763 at Coventry. She d. Mar. 15, 1845 at Coventry (g.s.). Ten children of the family.

• ix. Marcia Brigham (misprinted as Martha in the Coventry VRs), b. Jan. 28, 1770 (bp. July 1778 as Marcia) at Coventry; m. Hezekiah Edgerton, Jr. Apr. 26, 1789 at Franklin, Conn.

• x. Lucia Brigham (misprinted as "Lieushe" in the Coventry VRs), b. Nov. 6, 1771 (bp. July 1778 as Lucia [*]) at Coventry. Per the Coventry First Congregational Church Records (2:109), Lucia m. Aug. 31, 1800, "Dr. [Luther] Rice" of Glastonbury. They last residing in Butternuts, Otsego, NY where Luther died in 1836 and is interred with a standing bit illegible gravestone; Lucia apparently was living in the June 1830 census of Butternuts but died before the death of huabnd Luther.

[*] Also confirmed as Lucia in the 1793 will of her step-father Samuel Rudd of Franklin, Conn.

On the day Uriah died he was 54 years old, and Ætatis suæ (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his Age) 55, NOT 54 as inscribed.
