NATIVE OF COUNTY STRICKEN, AGED 78

Reading A. Shuler, 78, retired Defiance township farmer, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roger Fryer, at Painesville, where he had been making his home since September. Death was due to diabetes.

Mr. Shuler was born in Brown Township, Paulding County, Ohio June 8, 1864. He resided on a farm 5 miles south of Defiance about 50 years. His wife, the former Emily Kesser, to whom he married, August 16, 1884, died June 4, 1941. Since then he had been living with his children. He leaves a son, Henry, of Defiance; three daughters, Mrs. Carl Brown, Cecil, Mrs. Newton, Relue, route 1, Defiance, and Mrs. Fryer; a brother, Adam, near Columbus; a sister, Mrs. Emma Harvey, Detroit; a half sister, Mrs. Laura Grove, Oakwood; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the home of his son, Henry. Rev. J.W. Shock, officiating, with burial in Riverside cemetery.

RITES TO BE HELD IN HOME IN DEFIANCE WEDNESDAY

Reading A. Shuler, 78, retired Defiance township farmer, died at 12:20 a.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roger Fryer, at Painesville, where he had been making his home since September. Death was due to diabetes.

Body will arrive in Oakwood by train Tuesday and will be brought to the home of his son, Henry, 420 Holgate Avenue, in Defiance. Funeral will be held there Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. J.W. Shock will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Mr. Shuler was born in Brown township, Paulding county, June 8, 1864. He resided on a farm five miles south of Defiance along the old canal bed for about 50 years.

His wife, the former Emily Keezer, to whom he was married Aug. 16, 1884, died June 4, 1941. Since then Mr. Shuler has made his home with his children.

Survivors besides the son, Henry, are three daughters, Mrs. Carl Brown, Cecil; Mrs. Newton Relue, route 1, Defiance, and Mrs. Fryer; a brother, Adam, near Columbus; a sister, Mrs. Emma Harvey, Detroit; a half sister, Mrs. Laura Grove, Oakwood; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two children preceded him in death.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and had served for several years on the Defiance township school board.
