Everett Caldwell was a prominent attorney who served for many years as assistant district attorney of Kings County. He perform his office admirably and when a vacancy arose he was selected to become the District Attorney. However, the years of stress with his position and the prospect of the increased stresses that would come with the new assignment were too much for him, and he suffered depression and was was diagosed as a "nervous condition", and he took his own life.

Mr. Caldwell was born in Canton, and was the son of Charles C. Caldwell, twice sheriff of St. Lawrence county. He was educated at Canton High School and graduated from St. Lawrence University with the class of 1889. He worked as a clerk for the town of Canton and learned the practice of law with Worth Chamberlain. In the early 1890's he relocated to Brooklyn and became a partner in a large legal practice there, taking it over after the death of his partner.

In 1896 he was appointed assistant district attorney of Kings County and in 1912 he was named as first assistant district attorney.

Mr. Caldwell married a local Brooklyn woman, Anna L.C. Davis, who survived him along with a daughter Loraine aged 18, and a young son, Theodore. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Arthur Gledhill of Yuba City, California.
