Gladys Effie (Baker) Lukas of Westgate Manor, Blue Hill, Nebraska, died Thursday, November 25, 1993, at the home of her son, Charles, in Hershey, Nebraska. She was 79.

Services were held Monday, November 29 at the Blue Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Baldeo Singh officiating. Marlys Kort was organist and Evart Barton was soloist.

Pallbearers were grandchildren, Dave and Dan Muhleisen, Bob Brown, Mike, Kevin, Kenny, Denny, and Nathan Lukas. The Merten-Butler Mortuary was in charge of arrangements, and interment was at the Oak Creek Cemetery. Memorials are directed to the cemetery association or to the Blue Hill United Methodist Church.

Gladys was born June 18, 1914, at Pauline, Nebraska, to James and Jennie (Nelson) Baker. She spent her life in the Pauline and Blue Hill communities.

On September 30, 1930, she married Stein Lukas in Golden, Colorado. They farmed in the Pauline community until his death in 1984. Gladys remained on the farm until 1989 when she moved to Westgate Manor in Blue Hill.

Gladys was a homemaker, a cook at the Bethesda Care Center and the Blue Hill Country Club. She was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and always ready to help a friend in need.

She is survived by two daughters; two sons; one brother, Virgil Baker of Corning, California; eleven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. One son, John Nathan, died at the age of eleven months.
