Garrett Bradley, who first came to Marathon County in 1877, has lived in the vicinity of Stratford, since 1889, was born August 20, 1858, in Saukville, Ozaukee County. He attended the public graded schools in the community of his birth. At the age of 18 he accepted employment on a farm in Illinois for one year, after which he came to Marathon County to work in the lumber camps. He left for Milwaukee in 1880, and for nine seasons was employed as mate on a tugboat. Returning to Marathon County at the end of that time, he purchased a 160-acre tract of land in the town of Emmet, about nine miles east of Stratford. Here he built up a farm on which he resided until five years ago, when he retired and moved to the village, where he now has charge of the water department.
He was married November 3, 1900, to Miss Emelie Schladowski at Rozellville. They have one son, Harvey, who purchased a half interest in his father’s farm in 1925, and has since managed the place.
