He was born May 26, 1924, in McHenry, to John and Katherine (Freund) Phannenstill.
He also had lived in River Grove and Berwyn for 18 years. He was employed at various dairy plants throughout the years, including Bowman Dairy in River Forest and Jewel Hill Farm in Melrose Park. He later was employed as a candymaker.
He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Chicago White Sox.
Survivors include three sons, Robert S. (Gini) Phannenstill of Streamwood, Gerald "Jerry" (Peggy) Phannenstill of Plainfield, and James (Rebecca) Phannenstill of Wonder Lake; six grandchildren, Sheri, John, Michael, Patrick, Mikayla and Corissa; one great-grandchild, James; a sister, Rita Haldeman of Woodstock; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jaqueline (Anderson) Phannenstill; his parents; and two brothers, Alvin Phannenstill and Harold Phannenstill.
The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 at George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, McHenry.
