Obituary:
John Joseph Eger, 83, passed away Monday September 14, 2009 at his home. Family and friends are invited to share memories of John from 11:30 to 12:00 Noon at the Skradski Funeral Home, 340 N. 6th St., KC, KS Monday, Sept. 21. The visitation will begin at the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Clean Team @ Armourdale Renewal Assoc. 730 Osage Ave., KC, KS 66105 or to the NCPP, 65 South 24th St., KC, KS 66102. John was born August 1, 1926 in Kansas City KS (Armourdale area), to Henry R. & Ellen Margaret (Rock) Eger. He was a 1944 graduate of Argentine High School. He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy serving as a Diver and Machinist 2nd Class. After his return home from the Navy he began his career in the meat packing industry and later owned Wright & Williams Commission Co. at KC Livestock Exchange. In later years he worked for J.C. Penney & the USDA. John was a member of the Central Methodist Church, Police Advisory Board, South Patrol Citizen Advisory Board, Armourdale Renewal Assoc., NCPP, WCAC, Riverview Neighborhood Assoc, Connect the Dottes, Liveable Neighborhoods, Inc., Wyandotte County Art Assoc., Honorary Code Court Advisor, and also served as a Scout Master. He was a dedicated Community Volunteer and Activist. Preceding him in death were his parents and a son, Jeffrey. His two daughters survive him, Janet Callarman (Jim), of Minneapolics KS; Jennifer Eger of Jacksonville, Fla, and a son, John of Los Angeles CA; eight grandchildren and a brother, Bud Eger.
