Ernest Warren Bishop was born in Virgina to Eugene Chalmer Bishop and Mary Agnes Simandle.
His father was working in the coal mines. He joined the Army Air Force. He returned to college on the GI Bill and met Ledora Frances Jones and married her. After his degree in geology he took a job with the US Geological Survey and did some work in Florida. They had a daughter in 1953 and in 1954 moved to Guam where Ernest did work with the USGS there. They returned to the US in 1955 and moved to Florida where he worked for the USGS and later the State of Florida as a geologist. He wrote several books on rocks and water of Florida. He loved being outdoors and making weapons. He made a canon and a flintlock rifle. He and his brothers were best friends. They had another daughter in 1961 in Tallahassee.
In 1970, he and his family were moving to Grants Pass, Oregon, but during their stay in Arizona, he and Ledora decided to part. They were divorced in the 1970's. He then returned to Florida and returned to work.
He met Brenda Sheppard and married her, they had a daughter born in Tallahassee.
He retired and moved to Elizabethton, Tennessee.
He died there in 1996.
