Garland Chester "G.C." Holder
AZLE - Garland Chester (G.C." Holder, 93, a retired high school principal, passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday at Azle Church of Christ. Burial: Bishop Cemetery, Lipan. Visitation: 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
G.C. was born Oct. 2, 1911, in Lipan to Jesse and Hattie McCauley Holder. He grew up in Lipan and graduated as salutatorian and Hood County pole vault champion. G.C. joined the Coast Guard in 1941 and served through 1945. He attended college at Tarleton State, Daniel Baker and North Texas State University. G.C. earned a master's degree at TCU in 1954.
He and his family moved to Azle in 1949, where he served as high school principal and was instrumental in the city of Azle's incorporation, as well as an early member of the Azle Church of Christ. The catfish of Parker County can now relax with his passing. G.C. loved fishing, gardening, encouraging people, and the Azle Hornets. Many people credit G.C. with changing and improving their lives through his teaching. He will be missed by many.
Survivors: Wife of 60 years, Bernell; daughter, Chelsa Holder; son, Pat Holder and wife, Sandi; special friends, Bev Hogg and Laura Bynum; granddaughters, Ashlee Stites, Brittany Polk and Channing Holder; and six great-grandchildren.
