Married Evelyn Graham on November 17, 1923 in Decatur, Wise County, TX.

From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Monday, December 22, 1952:

J. O. Webster, Song Leader, Dies at 54; Rites Tuesday

J. Oscar Webster, 54, of 2724 Merida, well-known Fort Worth singer, was dead on arrival at a hospital on 4 a.m. Sunday after becoming ill at his home.

Webster aided in a large share of the musical projects in Fort Worth during the era when the city was growing musically -- the period during and after World War I.

He had sung leading roles in the Fort Worth Opera Company and was equally useful in oratorio. Webster held solo tenor positions in many church choirs in Fort Worth. At the time of his death, he was director of Magnolia Christian Church choir.

The singer was a charter member and helped organize the National Chanters Association of the Imperial Shrine Council at Chicago in 1949. He also became a director of the group.

Webster conducted the massed chorus of more than 1,000 Shrine Chanters in 1928 and became director in 1932.

He was a charter member of the Texas Shrine Chanters Association and had been secretary-treasurer for four years. Webster also was a North Side Kiwanis Club member.

Webster was born in North Carolina and had lived in Fort Worth 47 years. He was chief clerk for the Texas Electric Service Company plant office and recently received his 30-year pin from the company.

Survivors are his wife; a son, James O. Webster Jr. of El Paso; two daughters, Mrs. Jane Florence of Houston and Miss Suzanne Webster of Fort Worth; a granddaughter, Janet Kaye Florence of Houston; one brother, Will Frank Webster of Durham, N.C., and two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Sue Ross and Mrs. Dora Hamilton, both of Durham.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Magnolia Avenue Christian Church. Burial to be at Greenwood Cemetery.
