Walter R. Burnham was born in DeKalb, NY the only son of Rollin and Laura Judson Burnham. At the age of one year he moved with his parents to Alton Ia., later to Storm Lake, Ia., where he grew to manhood. He was married to Ola Mennis in 1904 in Early, Ia., moved to homestead in Perkins county, in 1910 locating to a ranch west of Eagle Butte where he passed away Christmas morning at 3 am of a heart attack.
He was a graduate of Iowa in the law department and practiced law a few years giving it up for the farming occupation.
