Funeral services for Miss Abbie Glezen of Petersburg, who passed away after a short illness of pneumonia on Wednesday night, December 14, 1932, at age 75years, were held at 2:30 o'clock, Friday afternoon. December 16, at the Presbyterian Church, with the W. T. McKinney, pastor officiating, and the interment was made in the Walnut Hills Cemetery.
Miss Abbie was born in Petersburg where she passed her entire life. She was the daughter of the late Captain Joseph P Glezen and his wife Sarah Hawthorne Glezen. Of the family only one brother, Robert, who has always made his home with his sister?
A niece, Mrs. Sarah Sullivan and her two daughters, Jean and Virginia of Petersburg are also left. Miss Abbie exemplified in her life all of those sterling qualities inherited from long lines of worthy ancestors, one of whom, Robert Wilson, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Her father, Captain Glezen, served in the civil war, as Captain, of Company H, Eightieth Indiana Infantry, and the Petersburg Chapter of the daughters of veterans of which Miss Abbie was a member, was named the Sarah Glezen Chapter for her mother.
Miss Abbie was a loyal member of the Presbyterian church of Petersburg, and her mother was one of the original members of the organization, which was founded in Petersburg in 1848.When the old Presbyterian church was built in 1854, her father gave the lot for the building and her uncle, Robert Hawthorne, gave all the lumber for the edifice. Miss Abbie grew up in the shadow of her church and she rarely missed a single service if her health permitted her to attend. She was active in its entire works and for a number of years taught the Coworkers ladies class on the Sunday school, being a faithful and excellent teacher. She gave her whole life to the duty of caring for her family, and though she had many ambitions for herself and her talents were varied and numerous, she never permitted her own desires to still the voice of duty. Some of her friends who have been privileged to read the, know that she wrote some very beautiful poetry, which was of exceptional purity and inspiration.
In her death, we have experienced the loss of a dear and valued friend, with whom some of the most delightful hours of our youth were spent, and in whose home we learned some fine lessons of christen charity and faith. For her we know that death has brought rest and peace
