John Fletcher died on December 27, 1862, in Nashville, Tennessee, of "fever" while serving in the Union Army. Malissa married Holloway F. Auten (born November 9, 1838)on April 14, 1867, in Franklin County, Illinois, and they had one child:
2) Cornelius Auten, born July 20, 1870, died November 8, 1890
Holloway Auten died in 1873, and Malissa married for the third time, to J. Henry Galbraith (born c. 1824), widower of Delilah Isabel Hogan (April 23, 1827-April 3, 1874). Malissa and J. Henry were married on March 15, 1878, and they had two children:
3) Oscar Dixon Galbraith, born January 20, 1879, died 1958
4) Nina Galbraith, born January 31, 1881, died February 24, 1894
J. Henry Galbraith died on February 19, 1884.
