Margaret Edie Cates, 93, widow of Boyd Cates Sr., died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, in her Berea home. Margaret was a housewife and beloved mother, and a member of the Red Lick Holiness Church. Margaret is survived by: her children, Lloyd (Wanda) Cates of Paris, Ky., Hazel Cates of Berea, Kathleen (William) Shearer of Berea, Rubin Ray (Gracie) Kates of Berea, Eliza (Delbert) Crutcher of Copper Creek, Boyd Jr. (Doris) Cates of Berea, and Carl Douglas Cates of Berea.She was preceded in death by: an infant son, Harold Cates; her parents, Johnny and Lucy Hobbs Abner; several brothers and one sister; and her husband, Boyd Cates Sr. Margaret also is survived by: her 29 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Lakes Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Mallory Springs Cemetery on Red Lick. Grandsons will be pallbearers with granddaughters honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, after 4 p.m. Online register book at www.lakesfuneralhome.com.
