Ella Griffith
Ella Catterton Griffith, 93, a lifelong resident of Lothian, died July 23 at home after a lengthy illness.
The daughter of the late Mary and Crumpton Catterton, Mrs. Griffith was born March 16, 1912, in Bristol, Md., now known as Lothian, where she attended Bristol Elementary School.
Mrs. Griffith worked at Marlboro Variety Store, The Leader Clothing Store and Lipman's in Annapolis and retired in 1977 from the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections, where she worked as a registration clerk.
She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Anne Arundel County Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Women.
Once honored as Maryland's Mother of the Year, her interests included cooking, entertaining and her church.
On Jan. 10, 1929, she married Eugene Griffith, who died in 1985. She was the mother of the late Shirley Griffith; and sister of the late Ruth White, Raymond, Earl, James and Lawrence Catterton.
Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Schmitt and Rosalie Crandell; one son, Earl Eugene Griffith; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, all of Lothian. Also surviving are one brother, Clyde Catterton of Landover; and four sisters, Pearl Moore of Accokeek, Virgie Edelen of Annapolis, Doris Sansbury of Cheltenham and Pat Boute of Holiday, Fla. Preceding her in death is her sister, Ruth W. Catterton White Richards
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane in Owings, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery on Bayard Road in Lothian.
