The Salina Journal23 Jul 1996 George E. Garst, 73, Salina, died Saturday, July 20, 1996, at Salina Regional Health Center. Mr. Garst was born June 25, 1923, at Glasco and was a resident of Salina since 1950, moving from Minneapolis. He was a welding foreman for Premier Pneumatics, a security officer for Dinkles Security and a World War II Army veteran. He was in the Police Reserve and was a past Scout master for Troop 215, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and past vice president of Eagles Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Hazel of the home; two sons, Robert of Solomon and Steven of Spring Hill, a daughter, Delores Stendahl of Mission, Texas; three brothers, Francis of Beaver, Okla., Robert of Wichita and Mark of Cleveland, Ga.; six sisters, Lela Brock and Catherine Smith, both of Delphos, Opal Algers of Culver, Mary Rayles of Minneapolis, Sylvia Shramek of Salina and Bonnie Strutt of Lincoln; 11 grand-children, and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, the Rev. Bob Aills officiating. Inurnment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
