L.B. Martin, aged 12 years, died in Colville, Washington, April 23, 1917. He was a native of Texas and a son of Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Martin of Marble Valley in Stevens county, both of whom with five other children survive. The name of the other children are: James Ernest, Essie, Ward, Sena and Sidney. The funeral services were held April 24, with Rev. Leonard Garver and Undertaker Quinn W. McCord in charge. Interment in Highland cemetery. The circumstances of the death are as follows: Young Martin went out into a piece of clearing to do some work. He took a twenty two rifle along. Before starting his work he proceeded to hang the gun on a limb of a tree. In the process the trigger of the gun caught and the weapon discharged. The bullet entered the abdomen. His strength and bravery were shown by his taking the gun and walking alone a quarter of a mile to his home. He exhibited this same type of bravery until a few hours of his death. His last words were expressions of warning to his chums to be careful handling a gun. The family wish to express their most sincere thanks and appreciation to the many friends who have taken such an interest in their bereavement, and especially to the doctors and nurses who did all within their power.
