William (Henry?) Swartfigure was born, raised and died at Saratoga Springs, following in the footsteps of his father Daniel; his grandfather Daniel Sr settled there in the 1820s. William's father, and his wife's father, were both carpenters; the families may well have grown up together.

The third son, William lost his younger brother Richard at 22; his older brother Frederick died a year later. His two sisters, one younger (Emily), one older (Stella), also died not long before William. Sadly, William's young wife preceeded him in death by 2 years as well.

The family enjoyed, and worked to support the high times of Saratoga Springs when it was a highly sought after tourist destination for the wealthy. Though the town itself was abt 12,000 people it boasted literally dozens of hotels for the leisure class, offering polo, a famous horse track, golf and shopping.
