In 1860 he and his parents and five siblings--two half and three full--lived on a farm in Washington Township, Harrison County, OH. His father owned personal property worth $570. Clayton worked as a farm laborer.

In 1870 he and his parents and six siblings--all full--lived on a farm in Perryton Township, Mercer County, IL. His father owned personal property worth $350. John worked as a farmer.

In 1880 he and his wife lived on a farm in Clear Creek Precinct, Saunders County, NE. (Precincts are basically the same as townships, but without any township government.)

In 1900 he and Mary and their ten children lived on a farm they were renting in Marble Precinct in the same county. Elmer worked as a farm laborer and Bessie as a servant.

In 1910 he and his wife and seven of their children lived on a farm they owned in the same precinct.

In 1920 he and Mary and three of their children--Hazel, Ivan, and Velzora--lived on probably the same farm, which was on Yutan Road. They owned their home, mortgage free.

In 1930 he, his wife, their daughter Velzora, and her husband lived there. They did not have a radio. Willard worked as a laborer on their farm.
