REST IN PEACE..

Lewis Edward Guldberg Hall: June 22, 1921- September 3, 2009.

Lewis Edward Guldberg Hall passed away peacefully on September 3, 2009. Born in Galveston, TX to Mary McLeaish and Oscar Emil Guldberg on June 22,1921.

He is survived by sisters Eileen Erickson and Dorothy Dingle; sons Michael T. Hall, La Grange, GA, Stephen Hall, Stephenville, TX and Keith Hall, El Paso, TX and their families including 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Entering active service in San Antonio with the 36th Division of the National Guard T-Patchers in November 1940, and completed his medical training at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver. He served in northern Italy including the assault on San Pietro and was awarded the Silver Star on April 25, 1944 for gallantry in action.

Following the battle he wrote "An Eternal Peace".

I listened quietly and bowed my head
while a short prayer was being read.
No longer will they smile with life's joy.
They have been placed away like a broken toy.
No, they have not died, only gone to rest;
to where all those go who have done their best.
Much sorrow they have left behind them, I know.
Altho' it was certain some loved ones had to go.
We knew that in our bold and brave fight,
death would stalk there day and night.
Now our battle's end is drawing near,
and we are on the side opposite fear.
We have won our fight at a great cost
and God will care for the lives we lost.
I hope and pray we have peace forever;
and our answer to fight another war will be- Never.

Following his military service, Lewis began a successful 40 year management career in the optical business working with the Rogers Brothers and Texas State Optical. A man of peace, he loved music, playing the piano and is survived by his family and many friends. We will miss him dearly. He is now in heaven and at peace.

Funeral services will be at Arlington National Cemetery September 24th 2009 at 10:00 A.M.
